The task I have set for myself: To write something worth reading.

I ask, “Who is my audience?” and, “What can I write that will help that audience?”

My audience is humanity. I may as well aim high. If I am going to say something, why not speak to the world? But is that practical?

I set a few guidelines for myself:

Fist: I strive to speak from my heart; I will attempt to write what I believe to be true.

Second: I will try and write words that are positive and encouraging.

And third: I will write about topics that are relevant to as many people as possible.

I could entitle this essay, ‘My Three Goals for Writing Success’ or some other such catchy title. But would that be truthful to myself? Do I already consider myself to be a successful writer?

For now, I will leave out the catchy and follow these guidelines, hoping that my audience will find itself. It shouldn’t take long to discover whether I can provide value or not.

The writing part should be straightforward; requiring a modest level of discipline. Could I write every day for a month? A year? Am I motivated by money? Likely, but not the best way to gain an audience. Of course any monetary results would be nice so to deny it as a motivator would…
