A Prayer for Perseverance
What is perseverance? Persistence is doing something despite the difficulty.
Writing can be easy. There are times when the words flow like a torrent. On the verge of waking up and the idea arrives on the wings of a lucid dream. An inspiration that grips my heart and makes me want to shout from the rooftops. “Here is the solution; listen to me and gain from my experience. Save yourselves from my mistakes.”
Other times, writing can be hard. There is no energy. It all seems dark and cloudy. How can I write when I myself am in the doldrums? What can I write when I have already said what I wanted to say?
Persistence. I will persist. I will continue to study the world around me and learn. The more I learn, the more I can adapt what I have learned into words that help others. And isn’t that the purpose of my writing? I want to write to help others.
Perhaps there are many writers who are entertainers. They write fantasy or they write horror or science fiction. I write none of those.
There are technical writers. They want to explain a thing in detail. They deal in facts and figures. Measurements, angles, and formulas. I’ve never been that technical. I am not an engineer.
And I suppose there are writers who are poets. They dwell in emotion, beauty and the free-flowing prose of the…
