Are There Shortcuts to Becoming a Top Writer on Medium?

I’ve seen articles that promote not paying attention to anyone else. These articles claim that since that’s what most top writers do, then they should follow the same strategy.
Unfortunately, such thinking is missing a key fact. Many top writers don’t clap or follow back because they have reached a point where they don’t have to!
To try and emulate someone with 5000 or 10,000 followers when you only have 50 or 100 is a recipe for failure. The person with 5000 followers paid their dues by clapping and following and busting their butt producing good content months ago.
The person with 200k followers earned their following by achieving success in other challenging pursuits outside of Medium.
