A variety of new words and phrases I learned from reading The Moral Landscape.

The Moral Landscape by Sam Harris is not an easy read. This book is the kind that requires me to keep a pen and pad of paper nearby to jot down words and phrases that cause me to scratch my head a little. I look them up, then go back and re-read the passage to get a better understanding. It is a slow process but rewarding in that it helps to strengthen my knowledge of difficult topics while simultaneously expanding my vocabulary.

First, I list the word or phrase in bold. Then I post the definition. Lastly, in italics, I use the word in a rephrasing of how Sam Harris used it in his book.

I hope you find these words enlightening in your quest for knowledge.

Armamentarium — a collection of resources available for medical or other purposes

Many people nowadays have access to an armamentarium of drugs that can regulate mood, anxiety, or sleep.

Fungible — able to replace or be replaced by another equal part or quantity

We should try to follow a path that maximizes both our well-being and the well-being of others. The properties of well-being are unlikely to be entirely fungible as we navigate across the moral landscape.
