The Happy Green Dot — Write Less, Read More
An easier way to build your audience.
What do I do as a writer? Wake up, get inspired, and pound out a five-hundred-word article over two cups of coffee. Post it to a couple of social media sites and then take off.
Busy here, busy there. Come back later and see that I’ve had three views on my article and no reads. No reads!
I bottle up my emotions while the voices in my head work themselves up.
“Nobody likes your writing.” “Your topics are uninteresting.” “The system is against you.” “You’re being put in writers’ jail.”
I keep a stiff upper lip and pound out another article. I’ll show them. I’ll show them all… I’m not a quitter. Grrrr…pound, pound, pound away on the keyboard.
I pause and think.
He who would be first must be the servant of all. That sounds familiar, where have I heard that before?
I stop writing articles. I start reading articles. I begin highlighting passages from other people’s articles. When I highlight someone’s work, it gives them a cute green dot when they log in at the top right corner of their screen. As does clapping and following.
“He who would be first must be the servant of all.”
