The Relativity of Age Over Time
We are always getting closer in age to one another.
I have now passed the half-century mark. Now I am ready to be called old.
Even though I feel like perfectly healthy, I know that from the perspective of the world, I am considered old. From the viewpoint of a teenager, I am old even though my memories from my teen years are still fresh, vivid and helpful to me today.
How can I encourage myself?
Both Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are older than me. Stephen Colbert is older than me. Simon Cowell and Anthony Robbins are both older than me. Neil McDonald is older than me, and I still think he’s funny.
Oh, and George Clooney is waaay older than me. That makes me feel better.
If I am 50 and you are 25, that means I am twice your age. I am 100% older than you.
When I am 75, you will be 50. That means I will be 1.5 x (one and a half times) your age. I will be 50% older than you.
When I am 100, you will be 75. That means I will be 1.33 times your age. I am now only 33% older than you.
As you can see, age difference is relative.
As time passes, this percentage difference gets smaller and smaller. I am looking forward to this ‘narrowing effect,’ as I age.
In light of eternal time, we are all the same age. 😊
